Consider a position on our Governing Board!

​

All dues-paying members of AWIS Central MA are eligible to serve on the governing board, and may nominate themselves for any of the following positions (position descriptions are from the chapter bylaws).

President

The President shall:

  1. Set and distribute the agenda for Governing board meetings, preside at Chapter meetings of AWIS-Central MA, and oversee activities of the Governing Board and staff.

  2. Appoint chairs of non-standing committees and other non-voting members of the Governing Board.

  3. Serve as the main liaison with National AWIS. 

  4. Following a one-year term as President, the President shall serve as Past-President for one year. The Past-President shall assist in long-range planning for the Association and shall serve as an ex-officio member of the Governance Committee. 

  5. Perform other duties incident to the office as required by the Bylaws or by the Governing Board.

Vice-President

The Vice President shall:

  1. Assist the President and Past-President in the performance of their duties.

  2. Serve as a coordinating person to facilitate the functions of the Governing Board.

  3. Explore strategic partnerships with local organizations for furthering the purpose of Central MA-AWIS

  4. Perform other duties incident to the office as required by the Bylaws or by the Governing Board.

 

Secretary

The Secretary shall:

  1. Record and distribute the minutes of Governing Board meetings.

  2. Ensure appropriate record retention.

  3. Prepare a summary of Chapter activity for inclusion in the AWIS-Central MA Annual Report.

  4. Perform other duties incident to the office as required by the Bylaws or by the Governing Board.

 

Treasurer

The Treasurer shall:

  1. Maintain financial records for AWIS-Central MA.

  2. Receive and manage in an authorized financial institution all Chapter dues, donations and other income; pay all invoices and request reimbursements.

  3. Prepare financial reports and submit necessary financial forms such as:

    1. Prepare a quarterly financial report to present to the Governing Board.

    2. Prepare the year-end financial report for inclusion in the AWIS-Central MA Annual Report. Submit the AWIS-Central MA Annual Report to National AWIS which includes the financial report and summary of the chapter activity after the close of the fiscal year June 30.

    3. Submit form 990N-E to the IRS and form PC to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office by Nov 15.

  4. Assist the Membership Committee in maintaining membership records and determining membership status.

  5. Prepare annual budgets for all Committees and provide budget management assistance to Committee Directors and Chairs.

  6. Perform other duties incident to the office as required by the Bylaws or by the Governing Board.

 

Communications Director

The Communications Director or co-Directors shall:

  1. Manage the operational aspects of their committee and be responsible for coordinating all communications of AWIS-Central MA.

  2. Coordinate with other members of the Governing Board to create and distribute material for promoting the purpose of AWIS-Central MA.

  3. Maintain social media and other communication platforms and perform administrator duties.

  4. Perform other duties incident to the office as required by the Bylaws or by the Governing Board.

 

Events Director

The Events Director or co-Directors shall:

  1. Manage the operational aspects of their committee and oversee event logistics.

  2. Plan and monitor event budget and revenue, coordinating with the Treasurer.

  3. Negotiate contracts with event partners.

  4. Work with the Communications Director to generate and distribute advertising material for events to members of AWIS-Central MA and the greater community and publish event updates to social media sites.

  5. Perform other duties incident to the office as required by the Bylaws or by the Governing Board.

 

Membership Director

The Membership Director or co-Directors shall:

  1. Manage the operational aspects of their committee and maintain member relations for AWIS-Central MA.

  2. Oversee promotion of Chapter membership and coordinate with the Communications Director to generate promotional material.

  3. Work with AWIS National and the Treasurer to manage the Chapter membership database and maintain membership records.

  4. Perform other duties incident to the office as required by the Bylaws or by the Governing Board.
